Invalid RPKI ROA

Sep 1, 2024

I wanted to announce a unique IPv6 subnet from each of my points of presence. To do this I added the prefix 2602:F9F4:20::/44 in ARIN thinking I could then announce the 48’s from that prefix. However, I didn’t specify the Max Length when doing that. This restricted me to only announcing the entire 44.

The wonderful team at HE showed me what I did wrong. Since then I’ve updated the ROA and I’m waiting on that change to propagate. I’m using Cloudflare’s RPKI tool to check it.

I believe I’m using a pretty standard PathVector config, but I keep running into issues.

  • HyeHost IPv6 Upstream can’t connect
  • No IPv6 routes work
  • Hurricane Electric IPv6 transit won’t work
  • Tritan IPv6 transit won’t work

I suspect it has something to do with my IRR. The current version of my IRR is below. It can be frustrating to troubleshoot something that takes time to propagate.

We got another transit provider! We peered with Tritan at KCIX, and signed up for their very affordable IP transit service.

We’ve been running into a couple of issues where our peering sessions go down. It’s not a major issue, but we’re going to be working on stability. Also, we’ve noticed occasional issues with IPv4 on some servers and IPv6 on others.

Our peering db page is more accurate now since we started sharing our sessions directly with them.

Update

Aug 23, 2024

As we build our network we continue to monitor the uptime of each node and that provider. This data will help us make longterm decisions reguarding who we rely on for our upstream.

We’ve already seen our providers dealing with a couple of issues. While we understand things happen, how the provider handles issues is what we consider most important.

Please refer to the pops page for an updated list of our points of presence.

Today I’m trying to peer with Xentain, but I seem to be doing something wrong. I tried using the same PathVector config from HyeHost, but it’s not working. I updated the values needed to match with the Xentain network.

I think the issue has to do with how I’m assigning my IPv6 address to an interface. I can get the peering to work, but then IPv6 connectivity breaks. And vice-versa.
