Bad Network Card

17 Nov 2025

Back in June we experienced an issue with our router. It had power, but we couldn’t login. We were able to access it using our OOB network and reboot it. It came back online and ran fine. It looked like a problem with a network card. We had an extra NIC already installed. So, we asked the Remote Hands to run two more SFP+ DAC cables from the router to our switches.

Then we forgot to add them to the bond

On November 6th, we experienced another outage. It appeared to be the same issue as before. We were going to wait until the weekend to make the changes, but it went down again on November 7th.

So, we went through the process of adding the new network card to the existing port channel, bond, etc. Brought it up online, then took the other one down and disabled those ports. It went surprisingly smooth.

The card in question had very old firmware and we couldn’t upgrade the firmware on it. So, we were glad to have an extra NIC already installed.
